Day 16 poem
I was entirely without inspiration to write anything meaningful today so instead I dug out a poem for your delectation and delight.
You know you're in your 60s when.....
Youve started wearing 'comfy clothes' and nice beige slip on shoes
You sometimes find you've had a doze whilst trying to watch the news
Your idea of a good night out is somewhere not too loud
Cos you just can't t be arsed with trying to shout above a crowd.
You're seriously thinking about rise recliner chairs
And, whilst you can still manage to climb up all the stairs,
The idea of a Stanna lift no longer makes you sneer
It won't be long before you're checking walk- in baths I fear.
You know you're in your 60s when your GP is your friend
The list of parts of you that ache keeps growing without end
Opticians too are valued more and more each passing year
Your friends keep telling you they aren't quite sure about your hearing
You've hit the age when grandkids tire you out but are a blessing
But really ancient parents are a cause of sleepless stressing
You're still at work, but work is getting less and less appealing
A few more years to go of that depressing Monday feeling
You know you're past your 50s when the wisdom of the years
Has brought a sense of balance, life's more happiness than tears
You're grateful for the good times, philosophic for the bad
Appreciative of those deeply lovely friendships you have had
You've still got hopes and plans and dreams
And time to see them through
So live the next ten years determined that in all you do
You've no regrets, no chances missed, no dreams left unfulfilled
You've spent the kids inheritance, left them nothing in your will
You're not yet 70, you're still young
Enough to cause a riot
So wear that purple, be outrageous
Ditch the sodding diet
Be an inspiration in everything you do
To those of us who are so very much younger than you. 😁
